The Premiere Episode!

9/4/1972... a date that would go down in history as the first airdate of the longest-running game show in television history! TnPIR was in the middle of a 90-minute block of new game shows on CBS; this block also featured The Joker's Wild and Gambit, neither of which made it out of the mid-1970s in their original CBS incarnations.

This is Episode #0011D (hence, it really is the first episode) and it was taped on Saturday, August 19, 1972.

Here is a nice wide shot of the studio just before Bob's entrance.
And now, here is the star of the New Price is Right, Bob Barker!
Check out the very first pricing game ever played! You can hear Connie screaming out numbers all the way into the next studio!
Paul is an excellent shopper! Watch him exert major ownage on the Bonus Game; then, stay tuned for him in the Showcases later on!
Sure the Pillsbury commercial on Tony's site is groovy, but my personal favorite has to be this Reese's commercial!
Here is the premiere of Double Prices, as well as (sadly) the first loser in Price is Right history.
Bob has to reassure Connie that this isn't The Big Deal Of the Day, a la Let's Make A Deal! Then, listen for Bob's suggestion on how to get to Acapulco!
After it's all said and done, Paul takes the cake again with his spectacular bid which was only $4 away! Still, to this day, that's the 2nd closest bid in TPIR history!
